Some News + A Comedy: “I’m Sorry”

Before I get to this week’s rec….

some news/updates!

For one, if you haven’t heard already, Season 2 of The Hook Up Plan drops on Netflix tomorrow (Oct. 11)!!

Also, GLOW got renewed for a fourth and final season. I would have cried and/or started a riot if it hadn’t been renewed, so needless to say, I am thrilled!

Finally, the post this week is a little shorter than usual because I have a lot of exciting things coming up! This blog has been up for two months now, and I’m excited to start expanding a little bit beyond my weekly reviews.

If you’ve read my TV philosophy, you know that I believe television has power. In the next few months, I’ll be publishing some short essays that explore that. I’ll be publishing a series of posts that include my perspective on some highly popular shows. I’ll also be writing some pieces on ideas I have about television, culture, and the importance of stories. Stay tuned!! And don’t worry, I’ll still be recommending one show every week.

Okay, now that we have that out of the way….this week’s rec below!

where to watch: Seasons 1-2 on Netflix

when to watch: You need something amusing and light that you won’t necessarily get super attached to.

you should note: Created by and starring Andrea Savage. Not necessary to binge.

tl;dr: I’m Sorry is a funny, light sitcom about raising a child when you’re an immature comedian.

I’m Sorry is the first show I am recommending that I haven’t actually finished. Why, you ask? Because to me, it’s not show I feel I need to finish as soon as possible. It’s a show I keep coming back to when I want 25 minutes of comedy without the worry that I’ll accidentally stay up until 2am, hooked.

A little bit like a raunchier, more vulgar Modern Family, I’m Sorry follows Andrea, a mother of a five-year-old and a comedian living in LA. The show focuses on Andrea, her husband Mike, and her daughter Amelia.

Now, humor is so subjective. This is one of those shows that you just have to try for yourself to see if it’s funny. I also have to say, sometimes Andrea Savage’s voice really irritates me, but you get used to it.

It’s not a must-watch, but it’s a great show to have in your rotation. Sometimes you just want a little bit of laughter at the end of a hard day or something to fill the time. This show is perfect for that. The humor isn’t always my cup of tea—I usually find it more amusing than laugh-out-loud hilarious. But sometimes it’s just so relatable and silly you can’t help but chuckle at the absurdity of life.

Andrea has two absolutely insane, hilarious parents that are frequently featured in the show. Her daughter is a typical 5-year-old in that she often says the wrong thing. She and her husband, Mike, have an endearing relationship that often consists of him laughing at his ridiculous wife. Their dynamic is highly amusing.

If you’re looking for another comedy for casual watching, check out I’m Sorry. Let me know what you think of it in the comments!
